Agricultural Development Team

Description: Food security and agricultural strengthening initiatives drive economic growth and hunger eradication in the developing world. The agriculture, food, and innovation team looks at how new policies, practices, and technologies are changing the way food is produced and the impacts these changes have on poverty, food security, and the environment.  In particular, the team leverages data and impact evaluation studies from the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR): a global research partnership founded in 1971 and currently comprising 15 research centers and many hundreds of partner organizations around the world.

Through its partnership with CGIAR, the agricultural development team at IPD researches how agricultural development innovations are making a difference.  The agricultural development team works with the Standing Panel on Impact Assessment, an independent group within CGIAR which has a mandate for studying the impacts of investments in CGIAR research.  Faculty lead James Stevenson works for this group, managing a large portfolio of research projects that provide data for IPD to explore.

The team's current projects build on work at IPD from the previous two years that cataloged and geocoded the locations of these research projects.  We are currently extending this work by preparing the datasets from these studies for publication.  This semester, our team members will be checking the datasets for clarity, quality, and replicability in addition to following up with the original authors with the goal of putting the data into the public domain.

Task Team Leader: Hillary Corwin, Ph.D. Student, Department of Government

Faculty Advisor: Dr. James Stevenson, Senior Resident Scholar, The LBJ School of Public Affairs
