Faculty Affiliate Dr. Stephanie Seidel Holmsten

Dr. Stephanie Seidel Holmsten is Lecturer of International Relations and Global Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research focuses on the election of ethnic minorities and women to national legislatures around the world, with particular attention to the role of electoral institutions and political mobilization in supporting descriptive representation.
She received her MA in International Relations from American University and PhD in Government from the University of Texas at Austin. Stephanie teaches using the Team-Based Learning approach, and conducts research on the effect of this technique on student engagement and development of critical thinking and writing skills. She recently won the Harry Ransom Award for Teaching Excellence. Before returning to academics, Stephanie worked in Washington, DC for Bread for the World, a grassroots, advocacy organization that supports government policies that alleviate poverty and hungry.
